07/05/2017 KANE COUNTY HOSPITAL

The CMFPD was trying to work out a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kane County Hospital regarding how our Quick Response Unit (QRU) would function with the Kane County Ambulance. If you were not aware, the Hospital owns the transport license for Kane County. In Utah only one transport license per county is issued.

The main holdup with the MOU is the Hospital's refusal to restock our QRU with controlled items such as a narcotic for example. This restocking does not include disposable items such as bandages, wraps, etc.

What this means for you as a taxpayer is added costs for our QRU as we respond to calls involving visitors to our mountain as CMFPD has the burden of restocking the QRU with your dollars.

Now the hospital has decided not to swap out equipment that CMFPD uses on a response. An example is a back board. When CMFPD places a patient on a back board, the ambulance takes the back board and does replace it. Now we have to use a person to travel down to Kanab to get our back board. This takes away from coverage on the mountain.

Nothing that is mentioned above leads to quality patient care, only an added burden to the CMFPD and you.

9/12/2017

The General Election for the CMFPD has been cancelled. There were only two candidates for the four vacant positions beginning on January 1, 2018. The two candidates will be sworn in at the first meeting in January, 2018 and will be considered elected officials according to Utah Code.
